Every day, unpaid carers in our community provide essential support to family members and friends who need help due to illness, disability, or age. Their dedication often goes unnoticed, and many face increasing challenges without financial support or formal recognition. Since January, requests for assistance from local services have doubled, reflecting the growing need for help. To respond to this, we are hosting our annual charity party, and we invite you to join us for an enjoyable event that makes a real difference.
This year, we decided to keep things simple and welcoming by organising a family-friendly gathering at the British Legion in Lower Gornal. It’s a chance to have fun, connect with others, and support a local charity that consistently steps up to help unpaid carers, even without government funding.
Why Supporting Unpaid Carers Matters
Unpaid carers play a vital role in our community by providing care that would otherwise require costly professional services. They help with daily tasks, medical appointments, emotional support, and much more. Despite their importance, many carers face financial strain, social isolation, and emotional stress.
Since the start of the year, the number of requests for help from carers and related services in our borough has doubled. This increase shows how much more support is needed. Our charity has responded to every request, but we rely entirely on donations and community support to keep going.
By attending our charity party, you help us continue offering vital services such as:
Emotional support groups for carers
Practical advice and resources
Respite activities to give carers a break
Advocacy to raise awareness of carers’ needs
Your participation directly contributes to these efforts and helps carers feel valued and supported
What to Expect at the Charity Party
We want this event to be a joyful experience for everyone. Here’s what you can look forward to:
Family-friendly atmosphere: Activities and entertainment suitable for all ages, so bring the whole family.
Live music and performances: Enjoy local talent and lively tunes to keep the energy high.
Delicious food and drinks: A variety of refreshments will be available, including options for different dietary needs.
Raffle and prizes: Take part in our raffle to win exciting prizes donated by local businesses.
Meet the team: Learn more about the charity’s work and how your support makes a difference.
The British Legion in Lower Gornal offers a warm and accessible venue, making it easy for everyone to join in the fun.
How You Can Help Beyond Attending
If you cannot make it to the party, there are still ways to support unpaid carers in our community:
Spread the word: Share information about the event and the charity’s work with friends and family.
Volunteer your time: Help with future events or support services for carers.
Donate: Every contribution, big or small, helps us maintain and expand our services.
Offer resources: Businesses can donate goods or services for raffles and events.
Your involvement strengthens the network of care and shows carers they are not alone.
The Impact of Your Support
Thanks to community generosity, we have been able to respond to the rising demand for help. For example, last year we organised
over 50 respite days that gave carers a chance to relax and recharge. We also provided one-on-one support to more than 100 carers facing difficult situations.
Without funding, our work depends on events like this party and the goodwill of people who care. By coming along, you help us continue this vital support and build a stronger, more caring community.
Supporting unpaid carers is a meaningful way to give back and connect with others who share your values. Join us at the British Legion in Lower Gornal for a memorable day of fun, food, and friendship. Together, we can make a difference for those who give so much.
